Contributing Substance Abuse Facts:
• 62% of high schoolers and 28% of middle schoolers report that drugs are used, kept, or sold at their schools.
• Three out of every four students (75%) have consumed alcohol (more than just a few sips) by the end of high school.
• Twenty-eight percent (28%) of 15- to 20-year-old drivers who were killed in motor vehicle crashes in 2005 had been drinking.
• 15.5% of youths ages 12-17 indicated that they had been approached by someone selling drugs in the past month.
• Underage persons who reported binge drinking were 7 times more likely to report using illicit drugs during the past month than underage persons who did not binge drink.
• 47.6% of all students have used marijuana by the time they finish high school.
